SUPPORT THE TROOPS EVENT 

There was a tremendous response from our community for the Support the Troops Event that was hosted by the Chamber on Tuesday, May 29th.  Approximately 175 were in attendance at the National Guard Armory where the guests of honor were recognized for their service to our country.  The recently returning soldiers that were present were David Curry, Oscar Diaz, Michael Huss, Jimmy Lane, Eric Peavy, Brendon Powers and Jessie Sambrano.  There were many veterans and family members of veterans and soldiers currently serving in attendance. 

Erica Scheipsmeier, of Austin Growers, opened the evening with a welcome, introductions and special thanks to our sponsors.  Lawrence Roberts, of the American Legion and Flores & Flores Realty lead the invocation.  The Hardee Senior High School ROTC did the presentation of colors and Dawn Atkinson-Jones, of Legally Connected Networking Services of Florida, LLC sang the National Anthem.  Carl Saunders, of the American Legion, led the pledge of allegiance.  Other members of the American Legion, lead by Frank Mancini participated in the POW and MIA Ceremony.

During dinner there was a power point slide show, prepared by David Singletary, of State Farm Insurance, that honored those that have served and are serving.   

There was a special video presentation introduced by David Royal, Mayor of the City of Wauchula.  A brief history of the American Wars was presented by the American Legion.  There was another patriotic performance by Suzanne See. 

Erica Scheipsmeier along with Congressman Vern Buchanan, made a special presentation to the guests of honor as a small token of our appreciation and recognized the veterans and families in the audience. 

Congressman Vern Buchanan was the guest speaker and also in attendance were State Representative Baxter Troutman and many local officials.

The event ended with Dawn Atkinson-Jones singing a very powerful God Bless the USA. 

The Chamber directors will work with the American Legion to decide what the proceeds of the event will be used for in our community.  The Chamber would like to again thank all of the sponsors that made this event possible!
